More on Pinterest!

I went on Pinterest.com again today and here is how they describe it:

Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard. Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. To get started, request an invite.

This would be great if you are just starting out decorating and trying to figure out your style, or decorating a new house or redoing a room. Here is a pinboard I found and liked!

Great Ideas on Pinterest!

I didn't really know what Pinterst was and somebody was telling me about something they saw on Pinterest so I went on their site today and it is addictive! Here are two great blogs I found with some great decorating ideas - housetweaking.com and miss-design.com!

Creative Rustic Headboard - I have blogged about this before but when I had my shop, a lot of customers were wanting rustic distressed unique headboards out of shutters or doors or something old. This is a great, inexpensive, DIY idea - you can go to Home Depot or Lowe's and just cut planks of wood the length of your bed, attach them on back and do a rustic, distressed paint treatment on front!

I think this blogger called this a pallet reading bed but what a cute idea to turn an old door sideways and make a little baby/toddler daybed!

Briarwood Flea Market this Friday and Saturday!

I will be a vendor at the Briarwood Flea Market which is this Friday, July 29 from 12-6 and Saturday, July 30 from 8-2. The flea market will be held at the Briarwood Presbyterian Church located off of I-459 and Acton Road (up the hill from McDonald's) and a percentage of all proceeds will go to Grace House Ministries. There will be over 80 vendors with all sorts of merchandise so hope you can drop by!!

Perfectly Imperfect Blog

My sister just bought some Annie Sloan chalk paint to redo a bed and she was telling me about a great blog where the blogger, Shaunna, shows a lot of the pieces she has done with the ASCP. It is a great blog so I'm adding to the blog list!

Chalk Paint Class at Faux Studio Designs!

I went on Saturday to Faux Studio Designs in Hoover and took the Annie Sloan chalk paint class. I almost cancelled because I had a terrible breakout of poison ivy but I'm so glad I went! There were 8 of us in the class and Stacey, the owner of Faux Studio Designs and our teacher, was great because we had so many questions! We got lots of hands-on experience with stenciling, learning how to do a crackle finish, layering colors, distressing, and using the clear and dark waxes! We all left with a lamp base, picture frame and moulding piece which she provided.

Once you start using this paint, it's really hard to go back to old paints. It is a little bit more expensive but it goes a long way and one of the girls in the class said that she actually dilutes hers with water which makes it go even further. The great thing about chalk paint is that you can put it on almost any surface and do not even have to sand or prime or anything which is a great timesaver! And I love using the waxes. They have a clear wax and a dark wax and if you use the dark wax, you have to apply the clear first but the dark wax gives you this great aged patina look with a little sheen.

Here are some pictures from the class. Her next class is July 30th. If you are interested in attending a class, Stacey's phone number is 982-4464 and her studio is at 2116B Old Montgomery Highway in Pelham!

Creative Workspaces and Cute Tutorial!

There is a great magazine/publication called "Where Women Create" where they show these inspiring rooms that women entrepreneurs use as workrooms, offices, paint studios and more that are just beautiful and give you great ideas on how to organize your crafts and supplies. I saw this beautiful room on Buckets of Burlaps' blog - you can go here for more pictures of her creative workspace!http://bucketsofburlap.blogspot.com/2011/07/where-this-blogger-creates.html

And here is another great tutorial from Dear Lillie's blog!http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/burlap-vase-tutorial.html
