The second issue of Flea Market Style magazine is arriving in newsstands now according to their blog, fleamarketstylemag.blogspot.com. This magazine is filled with ideas, photos and how-tos for repurposing, creating and feathering your nest with style, thrift and ingenuity.
Their first issue had some great creative ideas for vintage items - one was taking an old trolley cart and adding salvaged board and using for storage and it was so cute. They also had an article on how to shop an auction. Customers often ask me about sources for finding great stuff and one source is local auctions. I've known Mickey and Lana Hardwick for several years through Consigning Interiors but Mickey is also an auctioneer and has an auction house in downtown Maplesville, AL (landmauctions.com). The auctions are held every Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and they start serving burgers, hot dogs, fries, salads, and desserts starting at 6:00 p.m.!
Mickey also is an auctioneer for storage auctions. To see the schedule of those, you can google "Mickey Hardwick" and auctionzip will come up and that site has the schedule. If I remember correctly, at storage unit auctions, you can look into the unit but you don't actually go in so you may not know exactly what you are getting. I've known people who have gotten storage units full of beautiful furniture. I think if you win the bid, you are responsible for emptying that unit. But I've heard some stories where people don't think they had a good unit and went through boxes and found treasures!
I absolutely LOVE auctions! I just did several posts on redoing a table and chairs I got for practically nothing at an auction. I go to one in Centre, AL every second and third Saturday! I will check this one out...sounds like a great road trip to me!
